We have a small vegetable garden in our backyard; I’ve planted cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, lettuces, carrots, and other root veggies. I’m hoping to have a bounty of backyard yumminess come July. Until then, I’m hitting up the Matthews Farmers Market. I’m totally in love with incorporating a visit into my Saturday morning routine: a stroll around the market in the morning amongst local farmers and beautiful displays, then we plop down in Dilworth Coffee. Hubby and I get our caffeine fix, Graham gets his weekly “candy cookie” fix.
My favorite picks from the last few weeks include sugar snap peas, gem lettuce, fresh goat cheese, purple broccoli rabe, savory tarts and the sweetest strawberries and peaches ever! You’ll also find local eggs, honey, beef, chicken and pork, flowers, and transplants for your home-garden. Visit the website for more information and be sure to sign up for their newsletter for weekly updates on market availability.
Hope to see you there Saturday morning!
This is unrelated to this particular post but thought that your readers might find this interesting –
We’re a group of students at Stanford University. As part of a class project, we decided to profile Revolution Foods which provides healthy organic meals to kids in school cafeterias. The organization was started a few years ago by two amazing women and we were pretty excited about their story, so we decided to create a little video to help the organization along. Here’s the link: http://bit.ly/RevFoods
Thought you’d be interested to learn more about them, and would love if you could share it with your readers!
Thanks so much!
Can you believe I live two minutes from Matthews and didn’t even know this little treasure was there?!! Oh, I certainly have to start getting out a lot more. Thanks for sharing. Hope to bump into you and boys one Saturday.
@ YumMommy – totally check it out. Bring cash/check and go early(ish) for the best stuff!
