But as fate would have it, I had boys, so I do the best with what I’ve got. (Not complaining mind you, just playing the cards I was dealt. And I play to win.) So we go to consignment stores and wade through the racks of Easter dresses, and smocked gowns with matching bonnets, over to the land of boy.
In most stores this means a collared shirt and a pair of cargo shorts. If you’re lucky, a sweater vest may be involved. You look at the labels… Carter and Old Navy, an occasional Ralph Lauren and Gymboree thrown in for good measure.
Fortunately, today I’m at Mommy and Me and they’ve got better… much better pickings. Above and beyond the racks devoted to the girly {pink and purple} stuff that I, apparently, will never need, there was equal representation for the boys. Hallelujah.
When I walked into Mommy and Me located in the Fountains off Ardrey Kell, I felt a little of my bitterness ebb. In fact it may have dissipated entirely. I scoured the boys clothes and came up with a delightful assortment of designer duds, destined to turn my little boys into the preppiest kids on the playground.
All of the clothes were name-brand, designer and boutique labels. The gems at other consignment stores are run-of-the-mill at Mommy and Me. The prices are higher than what I would pay at other consignment stores, but so was the quality. I didn’t walk out with quite as many items as I normally do when spending an equivalent amount at other sales and consignment stores, but I did walk out with adorable outfits. At a fraction of the retail value.
Here’s what I got:
Can you say Easter outfit?
Taking playground-wear up a notch!
Birthday outfit here! Oh, and how cute will this be at the beach?
My one-year-old is gonna rock this look for Easter!
Just need to find a pair of saddle shoes and the look is complete!
I almost picked out a little smocked-Easter Bunny outfit and then thought…
he’ll only be able to wear it once. This one will get much more wear!
I know some of you are probably thinking that’s a lot per piece for consignment. But…. those short-alls? They usually cost between $60 and $90 dollars. That Lacoste polo? That bad boy retails for $60. Kelly Kids shorts generally cost $32 a pair, and Hannah Kate boys tops generally run about $35. So… you see… a good deal can be had. A good deal was had!
Mommy and Me is not where you get consignment clothes that you send you kids to art class in. These are clothes for the cutest-kid-on-the-playground contest, for church, for school. These are take-my-picture-in-it clothes. Check it out and share your awesome finds with us!
