When it comes to birthdays for children, the one thing I stress about the most is the cake. I’m not a great baker to begin with, but in my crowd, it’s not just about the baking. It’s about over-the-top cake designing skillz. And in that game, I just can’t compete.
So instead of trying to brush up on my cake shaping and icing skills, and instead of shelling out an insane amount of money for a cake, I go against the grain. No cakes.
I’ve been searching high and low for the best non-cake treats for kids. I’ve pinned my faves and now am sharing them with you. If you’ve got a “cake kid” this probably won’t suffice. But, I’m guessing that most kids will think these treats are pretty darn fantastic.
Popcorn Cake: It’s round, it’s colorful, you can toss in some candy, throw a candle on top, and even slice it. What’s not to like?
Cake Batter Rice Crispy Treats: It’s cake-flavored, just not cake. I think this kinda rocks. Plus, it’s got SPRINKLES!
Beach Ball Cookie “Cake”: This cookie cake would be awesome for any summer birthday party. Plus, it’s healthy. Or at least we can pretend it is. It’s got fruit!
Painted Cookies Party – Craft and Treat in One: I’m lovin’ this idea… a Painted Cookies Party. You can buy premade kits if you want to be completely taken care of for your kiddo’s party, but I’m guessing you can make your own kit too. Craft and dessert in one.
Candy Necklaces: Another craft and treat in one. Not sure where you put the candle with this one, but I’m guessing the kids will be so overwhelmed by the candy and the craft they won’t care!
Rice Crispy Paint Brushes: I’ve seen a lot of Artist Party ideas on Pinterest, and I think this would be the perfect contribution to the party. Cute and easy.
Ice Cream Sandwich Pop: It’s ice cream and you can stick a candle in it. Win – win.
Trix Pops: I made these the other day, and the colors of these things are fantastic. Another treat on a stick. Makes me happy. 🙂
Pre-Made Birthday Smore’s: My son is pretty in to camping. These pre-made smore’s would be a great go-with for that theme!
Strawberry Lemonade Bars – I’m guessing little princesses will love these pink bars! Sprinkle some glittery edible pearls on top and you’ll have some delighted tots.
I am tring to get the recipe for the Trix Pops and it won’t pull up. Can you help? Thanks!
Use this recipe and when shaping the balls, coat your hands with cooking spray! Hope that helps!
