Forty years ago, some seriously smart and amazing women worked with Congress to ban gender discrimination in public schools. An extension of this amazing law gave young women the opportunity to play Varsity sports. As a high school and college athlete,Title IX gave me the opportunity and a foundation I continue to stand on.
Playing a sport taught me the art of teamwork, the determination to succeed and the ability to persevere. The self-confidence I embodied as a result of playing sports was(and is) immeasurable.
I implore you to get your daughters involved in a sport. They don’t have to be the best but the life lessons they learn will resonate with them their entire lives.
As a mom to a young daughter, I can’t think of a better teaching tool than involving her in sports. Let’s not let what those amazing women fought so hard for forty years ago be forgotten.
