Hi y’all – This post is a long time coming! It took awhile to put together, but I’m oh-so tickled about how the living room in our new house came together… and just in time for spring! Pulling a room together that is both tasteful for adults and kid-friendly can be a challenge, but I have some great tips for Spring Living Room Updates that makes it easier than you’d think.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and as a blogger, that’s pretty darn helpful! So, allow me unveil our This New House Living Room, and then I’ll explain how you can re-create the look!
First, I want to give a big shout out to Front Door Fabrics. Wow. Their store is simply amazing. Amazing. I chatted about them earlier this year, after receiving the pillows for the Living Room Update. Yep, I’m still in love! After that collaboration, I knew I wanted to involve them in the window treatments for the room as well. We chatted details and I selected a faux-roman shade to go along the windows of the dining and living room. Not only does having the same window treatment tie the two rooms together nicely, having the fabric there really softened up the room.
What’s faux about a faux roman shade you ask? Well, traditional roman shades are not child-safe. In fact, a good majority of them have been recalled. At Front Door Fabrics, you can get child-safe roman shades that drop down as a normal shade would do for full window coverage. However, in my case, I really just wanted a window dressing, not a privacy screening. So, to save a few bucks, and to have an even look across the back windows, we went faux.
Front Door Fabrics has a HUGE selection of fabrics (hence the name, I ‘spose), and tons of trimming options to find the right look for your space. They also have on-staff designers to help you make your choices. I relied heavily on these gals!
Now, I must mention – Hillary Butler Fine Art. This is one of my favorite pieces of art I’ve ever owned. In fact, finding her online gallery prompted the whole This New House series in the first place! I adore the colors and movement in this piece, and am planning on adding one more of her works to this wall with a little purple or orchid in it to bring the whole room together. Can you say Mother’s Day gift??? You have to visit her site. Go on. Now…. I’ll wait! 🙂

Alrighty, moving on, I want to point y’all in the direction of Green South Living on Etsy. These folks create one-of-a kind furniture from reclaimed wood, right next door in South Carolina. I love the clean lines of all of their pieces, and you can select a stain to suit your decor needs. I also am grateful for how durable this table is. My kids give the living room a good beating and let me tell you – this table will stand the test of time!
Speaking of standing the test of time – I knew I needed an easy to clean rug in this work horse of a room. Our dining room, living room, kitchen and door to our back yard are all in this open space. Let’s just say, we’re pretty familiar with dirt, sand, dog hair, food crumbs, spilled milk and the like. Which is why I selected a Mohawk Rug for the living room.
I LOVE this rug. It’s stain, oil and fade resistant (which is good – our living room is full-sun!), but even better… this 8×10 rug is only $168! I don’t care where you go – that price is the best you’re going to find on area rugs of that size. They have a huge selection of Mohawk area rugs at Lowe’s and Home Depot, and you can learn more about Mohawk Area Rugs here.
Last but not least, I know y’all have been chomping at the bit to find out who won the Front Door Fabrics Pillow Store Credit! Congratulations to Amelia! Your home is going to get a little more ready for spring with a new pillow from the folks at Front Door Fabrics!
Oh, and I couldn’t end the post without sharing a pic of my photo-shoot companion with y’all.
This is Moll-Girl the sweet pup. AKA Molly Mae, the Mae-ski, and Goggy (that’s Will-talk for Doggie). She’s a big fan of Mohawk Area Rugs too. And blankets being left on the floor to cuddle up on top of.
Beautiful! Love the added color.
Thanks! 🙂
