Hi Mom Favorites readers, I am Renee, I blog over at Gettin’ Fit Fab and today I am here to share my favorite Mac N’ Cheese recipe. It’s great for any size family, you are able to double this recipe easily, also easy to store and to eat for leftovers. This is one of my most favorite recipes to make, it is from scratch so you know exactly what you are putting into your bodies.
Homemade Mac ‘n Cheese
Ingredients:
1 ½ lbs of Sharp Cheddar Cheese
1 ½ tbsp of butter
2 cups of Milk
1 cup of all purpose flour
1 box of Elbow pasta (or any kind of noodle you’d like)
1 tbsp of Paprika (for seasonings, topping)
¼ cup of breadcrumbs (for seasonings, topping)
Dash of pepper (for seasonings, topping)
Lets Start Cooking:
I suggest doing this in steps unless you have a helper, it could get tricky when melting the cheese.
Start with a pot of boiling water, add in olive oil, a dash of salt, add your pasta noodles and cook according to the directions on the box. While the noodles are cooking, cut up your cheddar cheese into little blocks and set aside.
After you drain your noodles, fill up half your oven dish with the noodles. To melt your cheese and have it at the correct consistency, you’ll need to first melt the butter and coat the bottom of the sauce pan. Put the temperature of the burner on medium, mix together slowly the milk and flour it should have a consistency of a slightly thick paste. Pour the paste into the sauce pan, mix in slowly the cheese blocks and continuingly stir slowly while the cheese continues to melt.
At this point you can preheat your oven to 350 degrees, once the cheese is completely melted and is no longer chunky you can pour half of the cheese over the noodles on the bottom, and stir.. With the remaining noodles fill up the rest of the dish and then pour the remaining cheese over and stir so the cheese is completely cover all the noodles.
Put 45 minutes on the timer, and once it beeps you are ready to dig in! Without doubling the recipe, it yields 6 servings. As you can see I doubled the recipe will making it to share with all of you, the cooking time goes to 1 hour and 10 minutes with two dishes in the oven.
You can add your own personal touch to this recipe, adding beef, or any kind of meat and instantly it’s a bit more yummy.
Thank you for letting me share my favorite home cooked meal with you all and I hope that you try and make it soon.
