Stay hydrated with this DIY Electrolyte Sports Drink Recipe, perfect for hot summer workouts!
Having just returned home from a vacation with the hubs to Italy (pics coming soon – I promise!), I have a singular mission – drop the pasta pounds.
I mean, why travel to Italy if you don’t plan on enjoying the food? For shame.
Well, enjoy I did. I enjoyed the pasta. The prosseco. The pecorino. And, most importantly, I enjoyed spending quality time with Jonnie.
Back to reality.
Get up early. Feed kids. Enjoy kids. Work. Work out.
Some of those are easier than others. The time switch makes it easy to get up on time, and I missed my kids like crazy. Soaking up all of the time I can spend with them is a joy.
But the working out? In the new summer heat? Killer. Especially, when I decide to hit the pavement mid-afternoon. I should know better than that.
There’s no better feeling in the world, though, than coming back in from a hot run and opening the door to a cool house. And, my second favorite thing? Pouring a glass of refreshing Orange Citrus Water – my newest post-workout recipe.
If I’m going over 4 miles, I also wear my super-cool (ha!) water belt and take my DIY Electrolyte Sports Drink along for the run.
According to WebMD,
The fact is, a sports drink may be your best choice if you’re an intense athlete. A new study shows that athletes can stave off fatigue 37% longer if they drink sports drinks — the kind with electrolytes and carbohydrates in them. They also run faster, have better motor skills, and are mentally sharper, says the study, which appears in the April issue of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.
So what’s in a DIY Electrolyte Sports Drink Recipe? Well, here ya go!

Love the colors of the gear you chose for your Polyvore board. The pink, aqua and lime green are great. I want to make a pitcher of this for those long hot days working in the garden, or when the kids play themselves out. Looks yummy! #client
