This summer, we’ve focused on enjoying family. As a family of five, I’ve learned that it’s about being together and living in the moment. I don’t have to plan for something to be epic for me to feel like it was epic, and I don’t have to plan for perfection for my boys to feel perfection. Being together, laughing, eating and being silly is enough. It’s more than enough.
We are doing our best to eek out every last drop that summer has to offer us, and to that end decided to host an “Our Grill is Working Again” cookout. And although it may not have been perfect in name, as it happened the grill was not really fixed (oops), we still had a blast. Turns out stove-top sausages taste just fine, too. And epic? Any party with water balloons is epic!
Want to pull off the world’s easiest Summer Party? I’ll let you in on the ace up my sleeve: Kraft Dips.
From start to finish, my menu was not only easy to execute, but almost everything can be made ahead of time.
My shopping trip started at Walmart where I picked up everything I needed: from table decorations, drinks and food, including the Kraft Dips that I used in most of the items served at the party.
My centerpiece? Bubble wands. Bright and colorful, plus fun to play with!
The fun continued with our cooler, where we used water balloons for ice. Not only does this save having to cart a big bag o’ ice from the store, but the the large ice balloons last a lot longer than small ice cubes! Just keep in mind – if your kids see you making water balloon for the cooler – they’re gonna want to have extras for balloon fights. Let’s just say, good times were had.
But as with any summer cookout, the best part was the food.
I always like to start out with a light appetizer, and for this event I served a veggie tray with Kraft French Onion Dip. It was easy to serve the dip right out of the container (note the updated packaging!), and then I just made a little printable to add a custom touch. I used the veggies that were pre-prepped so I wouldn’t have to worry about that last minute.
My favorite potluck dish is Party Potatoes? Ever had them? I updated my recipe and used Kraft French Onion Dip here as well.
Simply combine hashbrowns, butter, Kraft French Onion Dip, a stick of butter (doesn’t that make everything better) and shredded cheese.
Topped with potato chips, you can see why this dish always goes over well with a crowd!
And then there were the sausages. We were going to do burgers as well, but that was going to be more of a challenge since we had to move the cooking indoors. But, not worth worrying about! We threw some sausages on the stove and they turned out perfect. Ain’t no thang!
I love using exotic condiments for ordinary foods, so to go with our sausages (and would-have-been burgers), we served Sriracha Mayo, a curry ketchup, and the ubiquitous Kraft French Onion Dip. May as well keep the delicious French Onion theme going! 🙂
That’s it folks. Friends brought dessert. Sweet treats aren’t my forte. I’ve learned to ask for help when I need it! Did I mention the water balloons? So much fun!
