Upcycle aluminum cans and enjoy fresh herbs in your kitchen all year long! With Mrs. Meyers® Brand Products and your favorite herbs, these DIY Copper Herb Planters will be the star of your countertops!
To feminize my space, I make nooks of “pretty” for myself throughout my home. I feel even better when those nooks are both pretty and functional.
As a food blogger and recipe developer, I spend most of my time in the kitchen, so my countertop is one of the places that I want to always look great. To that end, I spent just a little bit of time crafting these DIY Copper Herb Planters.
Not only do I always have a pinch of my favorite herbs at-the-ready, but when paired with my favorite cleaning products from Mrs. Meyer’sⓇ Brand, it’s also a nice station for cooking and cleaning up my daily messes. Mrs. Meyer’sⓇ Brand products are packaged in beautiful bottles that are recyclable and BPA free, but they are also made with essential oils and plant-derived ingredients. I adore their fresh, true-to-nature scents!

First you’ll want to pick out your favorite herbs and pair them with an appropriately sized aluminum can. Remove the labels and thoroughly clean out the cans using Mrs. Meyer’s® Dish Soap. It’s thick and great at degreasing. Plus, it rinses clean. All you need is a squirt or two of liquid dish soap and you’re on your way.
Once the cans are dry, lay them out on a drop cloth or paper bags and give them a coat or two of copper spray paint. Allow the paint to dry in well-vented area.
Turn the cans upside down and hammer a small screw driver into the bottom, creating drainage holes.
Fill each can with your potted herbs.
Attach chalkboard tags to twine and hot glue them onto the copper cans.
Voila! I filled my DIY Copper planters with tarragon, which I like to egg dishes, purple basil, which is awesome in Asian dishes, and lavender, whose flowers I like to use in pancake and cookie batters.
