“Mommy?” That’s something I hear a hundred times a day. And, however sweetly it comes out, it’s always followed by a need…”I want milk. I wanna play trains. Can we go to the bookstore? Can I watch Bob the Builder? I have poop in pants.” If you’re a parent, you understand. “Mommy,” is a precursor for tasks ranging from short-order cook to diaper changer. Yep, my son is taken care of. And, I’m glad to do it. Because he’s a great little boy, and I love him, and I’m his mom.
My only question is, who do I get to ask either sweetly, or belligerently if I so desire, when I need to be taken care of? Yeah, my husband may run out to the store to grab a chocolate pudding for me. Because I’m pregnant and he doesn’t want to hear about it for the next week if he doesn’t. And, he will rub my back on occasion (OK, almost nightly), too. I know I’m lucky. But he can’t do it all. No one can do it ALL.
