Hi, everyone! I’m Candace from His Mercy is New and I’m thrilled to be at Mom Favorites today sharing about one of my favorite things — books!! Summer may be almost over, but if you’ve got one last trip to the beach (or even the pool), you won’t want to miss these Best Summer Beach Reads!
This summer we were pleasantly surprised with a week at the beach that we weren’t expecting! As soon as I found out we were going to be taking the trip, the book nerd in me came out. I started searching for the perfect books to take with me. There is still plenty of time to get in some summer reading, whether you’re at the beach or just dreaming of the beach!
These books are some of my all time favorites, I would love to hear from you! What would you add to this list?
Best Summer Beach Reads –
For Your Soul
A Million Little Ways by Emily Freeman. For every mom out there who feels ordinary, who feels like they have nothing to offer, who feels like they are nothing special. You need this book! Emily so beautifully shares in this book that there is art deep within all of us, art is anything that you love and do well. Your mothering can become art, your music, your homemaking, your work on your laptop. This book will encourage you, I promise!
Sparkly Green Earrings by Melanie Shankle. For the mom that needs to laugh, you must get this book!! Melanie Shankle’s memoir on motherhood had me in tears one moment and laughing so hard I woke up my husband the next!
For Your Home
Nesting Place by Myquillin Smith or The Nester. For every woman who wants to make her home beautiful but feels she doesn’t have the resources or time to do it. The Nester reminds us that it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. This entire book is beautiful…the quotes, the pictures, the whole idea that we must leave perfection behind to live a life of contentment and joy.
Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Crystal Paine. For every one of you that feels disorganized and NOT ready to start this new school year, this book will help get you on your way! This book not only gives you the practical “how-to”of setting goals for your home and for yourself, but gives you motivation, inspiration and encouragement along the way. I love the practical nature of this book and came away so inspired!
For Your Pure Entertainment
The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. For the mom who needs an escape, this is it. This series may even be too old to mention, but it’s probably one of my favorite fiction series of all time, so I had to list it here. I think I read these each in one night because I couldn’t put them down. This series is set in the United States in a not-too-distant future where America has collapsed. Not everyone enjoys this genre, but if you do, you need to read this series.
Divergent series by Veronica Roth. This is another series that reminded me a little bit of Hunger Games, but was definitely different enough that the story lines didn’t get confused. This is considered dystopian literature, and again, not everyone loves it, but if you loved Hunger Games, the chances are you will enjoy this series also! For me, this series was as hard to put down as Hunger Games!
Mark of the Lion Series by Francine Rivers. For you mamas that love historical or Bible times fiction, this series will not disappoint. This series takes place in Rome after the time of Jesus death and resurrection. The Jews in this story are being persecuted and you also see a lot of history intertwined with gladiator fights and Greek and Roman culture.
I hope that each of you can find something on this list that will make for some enjoyable reading in your life over the next few weeks! And most of all, I hope you take the time to dream of the beach and pick up that book and make a little bit of time for you!
I blog at His Mercy is New where I write about great books I’m reading, our family life in East Tennessee, and lessons the Lord is teaching me on faith, hope and loving others.
