I received product and compensation to facilitate this post. Thank you Spiffy Mobile Car Wash and Detailing for this opportunity. And for not driving away when you saw how gross my car was. All opinions are my own.
Alternative Title: The day I thought something had died in my car, but couldn’t find it.
Y’all. I’m a believer in tidy. In clean. In organized. I’d blame it on the three kids I have and needing to know where everything is in order to get through the day. But, if you believe my mom, I’ve been this way since I was in the crib. I’d point at the tiny messes in my nursery and demand they be picked up before I could fall asleep. Things haven’t changed.
So, it’s a mystery to me why I can let my car get so out of control. Seriously, I can go months without a car wash. Maybe even years if you don’t count getting your car out of the garage during a heavy rainstorm as a car-washing. The same people who discredit that as a car wash probably don’t count swimming in the pool as a bath either, so what do they know? 🙂
My van, which I had purchased in June (admittedly June 2014), had never had a car wash, never been vacuumed, and never really been cleaned out. Granted there were a lot of things going on in our lives this past year, but excuses only matter to those who make them. (Thanks, Angie.)
I was actually fine with the mess and mayhem in the car until… until… the day I got in my car and it smelled like something had died. Like rotten, molding, take your breath away bad.
I posted about it on Facebook, and turns out… it’s a rite of parenthood. Your car will inevitably succumb to mysterious and terrible sources of grossness. Some admitted to finding forgotten-about dirty diapers. Others bemoaned the sour-milk filled sippy cup they rolled underneath a seat. Another friend accidentally left burritos in the car overnight during a heat wave. I’ve actually done all of those. Although mine wasn’t a burrito. It was Broccoli in Garlic Sauce, which is probably worse.
Although I never did find out what the true source of the stank (I suspect it may have been moldy swim clothes), I did get rid of the problem. And, I’m actually super excited to be in my like-new car. Why? WHY!!! Because I called Spiffy Mobile Car Wash and Detailing.
These are the professionals. The pros you call when like me, you have waited too long to do something about the place that besides your home you spend the most amount of time in. The Spiffy crew is incredible. I booked my appointment via an app through my phone. They called when they were on their way. They helped me get the car seats out of my car. Then they spent 3-4 hours, HOURS, getting my car clean.
It was impressive, folks. They bring their own soaps, water, vacuums, and tools to get the job done. Yep – they bring their own water. Nice, right?
I gave my minivan the “Awesome Detail” which was totally needed. The service costs $159 (sedan) or $199 (non-sedan). They have additional menu options ranging from $19 – $299. Spiffy also offers a subscription service, which I am seriously considering. I’ve admitted to being Type-A, but being slack about having a clean car. Now that it’s clean, I want it to stay that way. Seems like the best thing to do is just go ahead and sign up for six cleanings a year. For as much time as we spend in the car, it just makes sense.

Katie, thank you so much for making me feel better about the state of my minivan. I thought I had a stinky mess in my van. 😉 We have two boys, so I definitely recognize those spills and crumbs. I have to second the glowing report on the Spiffy mobile car wash and detail. Ah-MAZ-ing! After the tech left it was like driving a brand new car.
I know. They are fabulous!
I’m terrified to look under out car seats! I wish Spiffy were closer to us. I need them ASAP!
Book it! They are awesome!
Glad someone else’s back seats look like that 🙂 I had to lift mine up to get some long furniture in and I was amazed at how much the children had manage to loose down there….plus all the old food. Yuk!
