Game Day cuisine gets taken up a notch with this Spicy Pulled Pork Nachos appetizer featuring El Yucateco hot sauces!
Looking to Southern-ize your Game Day this weekend? I know everyone in my home town is gearing up for the big game and stocking up on favorite drinks and snacks in anticipation of an exciting day of football!
As a Southerner, I was taught to love and appreciate pulled pork. It’s a staple of Southern cuisine and is to be revered. As is our local football team, although traditionally, our home team is not as outstanding as the typical plate of pulled pork. This year, however? This year? We have a chance to rock both. A stellar playoff season awaits, and I’ve got the perfect food to celebrate.
Bring on the Spicy Pulled Pork Nachos – a delectable appetizer that comes together in cheesy-spicy-sweet-and-savory perfection when piled up in a cast iron skillet.
This is truly the time when I wish you smell-o-vision was a thing. ‘Cause this smelled uh-mazing. Truly.
The dish all starts with the pork. I started by slow cooking a pork roast for 8 hours, seasoned with chili powder, curmin, oregano, orange juice, lime juice and El Yucateco Black Label hot sauce. I picked it because of the smokey flavor it imparts to the meat, but the El Yucateco Red Habanero Hot Sauce would be just as great.
After the meat is perfectly tender, shred it with two forks and get ready to make some nacho magic. (Save any leftover pork for quesadillas, tacos, or soups later in the week.)
Now, let’s bust out the cast iron skillet and throw down some tortilla chips. Throw them gently, we don’t want a pile of crumbs! 🙂
Time to add a layer of pulled pork. Get as meaty as you like!
Next up? Red onion for some bite.
Then the cheese. A lot of cheese. Really, just coat everything.
Let’s add some spicy barbecue sauce on there! I mixed 1/2 cup of barbecue sauce with El Yucateco Red Habanero hot sauce for added heat.
Time to bake! Put it in the oven at 400 degrees and bake until cheese is thoroughly melted, about 10 minutes – but it totally depends on how layered your nachos are. Just keep an eye on ’em!
Once you reach ooey-gooey cheese status, scatter on some deli cole slaw.
And of course, some salsa and more El Yucateco hot sauce, to taste!
El Yucateco hot sauces and all of the ingredients in this recipe can be purchased at your local Publix.
Why am I raving about El Yucateco? Because it’s made with fresh red habanero peppers, tomato, and select spices and seasonings. I think it’s the perfect “all purpose” sauce and has a little more kick then the average hot sauce but with far less vinegar.
Not for the faint of heart, but down in the South, who is? 🙂
If you like El Yucateco as much as I do, be sure to check out the El Yucateco gear store where you can find cool gear to show off your El Yucateco love. You can find men and women’s apparel including board shorts for the summer, hoodies for the winter and even embroidered shirts for a casual night out with kick!
Enjoy folks, and…. #KeepPounding! What will you be serving on game day?
