I was scared. Very scared. I’m sure you will be too. Going to your first movie with a toddler can be intimidating. Here’s a few concerns that I had, and the result after today’s movie adventure, watching Arctic Tale at free-movie day hosted by the Regal Arboretum Stadium Theaters:
1. Will my child be able to sit for the duration of a movie? Yes. We did it! Mind you, the movie was shy of 90 minutes, so it was short. But, if you disregard going back and forth between his seat and mine, we managed to stay still.
2. Will my child be able to sit in his own chair at the movie theater? No. My child would have been eaten by his seat. Apparently he hasn’t reached the weight which would have enabled him to keep the seat down on his own. Oh, and forget about the child booster seat. It’s no good. But, he was happy in my lap. Lucky me!
3. Would the scary parts of the movie be too scary? Nope, my kid was oblivious to the entire plot of the movie. Granted, it was a nature film, so not too scary and not too much in the way of plot either. I suppose we’ll worry about plot development when he’s three.
4. Will my kid be inappropriately loud? Um, kinda. I felt bad for my friend who sat next to us and had to listen to my child exclaiming, “Papa Bear, Ice, Bird, and Tweet-Tweet” for 90 minutes, but hey, it was a kids’ movie and it was free. Comes with the territory.
5. Will I be able to nap during the movie? Sadly, no. But, it was pleasantly cool, which beats the heck out of anywhere else in Charlotte these days!
So, if you are feeling like you too are brave enough to enter the world of movie-going with your toddler, I highly recommend the free movies that are offered summer mornings at many of our local theaters.
