Stuff on a stick

When you have a toddler, eating is all about gimmicks. One day you serve them grapes, and they love them. So you buy a huge bag and give them to him for breakfast the next day. Only to get a full-blown temper tantrum about eating one lousy grape. Seriously. We need to have an intervention. Or just put everything on sticks. Which is now my new gimmick. It will work for a week. Then I’m back at ground zero again.

But at least for this week, everything’s on a tooth pick. Fruit kabobs, the old-fashioned meat on a stick, muffins skewers… I’ve even put fried egg on a toothpick. And for now, it’s working. Gone are the days where providing something to dip food in solved all our problems.

Got any ideas for other ways to make food fun? Let me know. We’ll need a new gimmick next week. And my Mary Poppins bag is all out of tricks.

Frozen grapes are a hit at our house when she refuses to eat them the normal way

My daughter thinks anything out of a can is Diet Coke. I now buy V8 in a can and serve it to her….she thinks she is drinking diet coke, but really she’s just getting her veggies.

Our gimmick for the moment is giving him a “kid-size” fork to eat with…maybe the next offering will be the “kid-size” (Gerber) knife…or maybe not! 🙂 Oh, and homemade smoothies! You can stick all types of good things for them in those!
