The grown-ups were downstairs in the kitchen with JJ and his contemporary, Brady; and Hannah was oscillating between upstairs and downstairs — wherever the toys took her. Now, I should preface this story by saying that Maggie and Ryan tend to have a love/hate relationship. They’re either laughing hysterically at one another’s antics or screaming in agony because one has pushed/hit/half-nelsoned the other. Nevertheless, today, they seemed to be getting along famously!
As I was saying, we Moms were downstairs chatting, and at one point, remarked at how quiet Ryan and Maggie were being. We questioned whether that was a good thing, and for the time being, decided to “just go with it”. About 15 minutes later, I decided that perhaps it’d be wise to go up and check on the doe-eyed toddlers. As I ascended the steps, I heard faint chattering, and since the playroom was empty, followed the noise. And guess what I ended up finding??? Ryan and Maggie in the bathroom, buck-naked, and standing on the step stool pondering how best to wash their hands! Well, let me clarify, Ryan wasn’t completely buck-naked. He had his shoes and socks on, with his pants and diaper pulled down to his ankles.
I guess I should have been happy that washing their hands was the next logical step, however, it was evident that a whole lot of pooping is what proceeded. There was poop EVERYWHERE — in the toilet (I’m guessing that was Maggie), on the floor, on Maggie’s pull-up that had been removed and left dirty-side-up, and pretty much waist down on Ryan. In fact, it was difficult to discern whose poop belonged to whom, but really, at that point, did it even matter?!
The kids were just tickled by the whole scenario, and I have to say, before I began dry-heaving cleaning up the mess that lie waiting, we Moms got quite the chuckle. Actually, no, we were downright in tears, laughing so hard. One of my friends pulled out her iPhone in an attempt to capture the moment, but alas, the picture didn’t turn out, as her hand was shaking too hard from the hysterics.
When all was said and done, I’m quite confident this moment will be one for the record books. It might be a story eloquently told on Ryan’s wedding day. It might not. But perhaps worth considering in the immediate future, it might be time to discuss the importance of personal space and privacy.
That is hilarious!!! OMG, you guys must have been DYING!!!
