Five Tech Tools to Know, by Veronica Ospina
This summer, I attended my second Taking Action for Animals (TAFA) conference in Washington DC, which brings together a diverse group of people passionate about animal advocacy. The conference also serves as a giant think-tank for innovation and sharing ideas. One session that offered several exciting takeaways was Tech Tools for Efficient Animal Advocacy led by Jennifer Fearing, California senior state director HSUS, and Michael Parrish DuDell, senior editor Ecorazzi.
I was most excited to learn about the five applications below. Whether for advocacy work, business or time management skills, these are tools of the trade that everyone can benefit from!
1) Doodle– No Outlook? No problem. This tool is free and will handle your group scheduling needs.
2) Instapaper – When I find something interesting online, I often have to set it aside for later. Then, I forget to go back or can’t find it again. Do you have this problem too? Meet Instapaper! It saves web pages and articles for later viewing on your PC, mobile device or Kindle. In essence, you create your own newspaper.
3) nFinity – This tool conveniently records voice notes, meetings, classes, interviews, and…wait for it…it can transcribe! Now available for Mac, Windows, iPhones, iPods, and iPads.
4) Dropbox – Here we see the idea of cloud computing come to life. With Dropbox, you can access and share your files anytime, anywhere.
5) Square – Last but not least, Square allows your iphone or android to accept credit card payments! It’s secure and it’s free. Funds appear in your account within 24 hours. You just have to see this video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBieYjxUj5Q
All the tech tools listed above are free or have a free version. Most are also available for both desktop and mobile device use. What’s your favorite new tech tool?
