Did Someone Say Bacon?

A post from Chemeeka S., our CMF Cooking Coach:

The word of the day is “canapes” (pronounced can-a-pays). It’s a fancy way of saying Hors d’oeurves or more simply stated, “appetizer”. It’s a small bite. And this one’s really easy to make. It’s my bacon canapes. We can do this fancy or just really simple. If you’re having people over or have got a party to go to, this is a great “go-to” recipe.

You start off with a loaf of plain white bread, a few strips of cooked up bacon, a circle cookie cutter, some mayo, and access to your spice cabinet.

And literally…that’s it!

First you want to go ahead and cook up your three slices of bacon and set them aside to cool. Then go ahead and get your cookie cutter and white bread out. Cut out the centers of ten to twenty pieces of white bread, depending on how many canapes (little appetizer bites) you need to make. I’d say 10-15 circles would be adequate.

Set your 10-15 white bread circles aside and get out a small bowl to mix up your mayo. You’re going to take 1/2 cup of regular mayonnaise in a small bowl and have at it with your spices.

I like to make my canape mayo with:
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 tablespoon dry Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Stir these to combine and get out a plate to set up your canapes. Crumble your three strips of bacon in a small bowl. Layer your mayo on your white bread circles and then sprinkle them with the bacon and your done! If you’d like you could even add a thin slice of vine ripened tomatoes. Sounds simple. Tastes delicious. And when you bring these “canapes” to your next event people are going to be saying, “ooh…what is that? who brought those?” Trust me. Take me word for it.

Did you try to make these? How’d they turn out? I’d love to hear about it, just leave a comment below!

Happy Baking,

-Chemeeka
