I Just Lost My Consignor Virginity: The South Park Green Jeans Sale

I like to shop.  But I also like to purge.  There is no better feeling than walking into a clean closet.  Free from all of the clothes that unflatter, no longer fit, or are worn out.

I closet-purge frequently.  I have a trash bin, Goodwill bin, and a consignment bin.  Pretty organized, right? And it all has worked out pretty seemlessly, except….

Except I’ve never-ever consigned any of my clothes.

Sure, I’ve bought plenty of my clothes at consignment shops and sales, I just hadn’t gone through the process of selling my stuff.  Until today.  Yep, Cindy Williams of the Green Jeans Consignment Sale has been urging me to participate as a consignor  in her sales.  I finally decided to bite the bullet.  I’m thinking it’s gonna be well worth my efforts.

There’s also still time for you to participate!  Drop-off begins on Tuesday July 31st, so be sure to register soon to reserve a slot.
Here are my thoughts on the process.  Yes, it takes time.  No, it’s not exactly “fun.”  But once it’s done and you see the money clothes that you no longer wear piled up in front of you, it’s a GOOD feeling!

Tips to get you on your way –

Clean out your closet and drawers:
Day 1: Pull 15 items
Day 2: Pull 10 items
Day 3: Pull 5 items
Yep, it gets harder and harder, but you really get the stuff out that you don’t need/want/wear.
Organize your items to be consigned:
Check to make sure every item is in good condition and meets the requirement of the sale.
Everything on hangers, facing left (like a question mark).
Everything spot-cleaned, washed, ironed and/or steamed.
Separate by type: long sleeve, short sleeve, pants, dresses, etc. (this will help you with the pricing and tagging).
Collect safety pins, scissors and heavy-duty light colored paper.
Figure out where organized and clean clothes will be stored until drop-off.

My work space for the afternoon.
Enter your items:
The Green Jeans Sale uses My Consignment Manager which makes it a simple process.  Collecting items by type helps eliminate keyboard redundancies.
Price items 25-40% of actual value and consider if you want items to be discounted and/or donated at the end of the sale.
Use descriptions that include brand name (and the store where purchased if it might positively influence a buyer).

Tag your clothes:
Pin tags to the right hand side or inner tag of the item.
Do a once-over to make sure the item is sale-ready.
Drop off:
Confirm scheduled drop-off time.
Drop off items in clothing-type groupings (shorts, pants, dresses, etc.)

Get excited to make some cash (and perhaps spend some of your earnings at the sale)!!!

Now, that I’ve done all that work, I hope to see you at the Green Jeans Sale!  And, if you’re looking for Genetics jeans, Anthroplogie sweaters, or Banana Republic tops, I can most guarantee you’ll find something.  Um, because I just tagged ’em!

So… see you there?
Details: August 3rd, 4th, and 5th
At the Queens Sports Complex off of Tyvola Rd.
Check the website for hours and directions.

Oh, and what do y’all think?  Have you ever been a consignor in a local sale? Did you have a good experience?
