I’ve gone back in forth with what to do with all of this baby and kid stuff in my life. Do I keep it? Save it? Am I having another baby, ever, or not? Frankly, and I don’t know if I should even admit it at this point, I just don’t know. My doctors don’t like the idea of me trying to deliver another baby. I feel angst about not having another baby. And, I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been told I shouldn’t or if it’s because I really just want another kid.
So, I’ve held on to more baby stuff than I’d care to admit too. But, just the other day, as I was trying to find an outfit to put on my youngest child Will, I had a realization. I opened the drawers and pulled out a pair of shorts. They felt snug on him. The were size 9 months. He’s 16 months. No shit, it’s snug. He’s almost twice the age that was appropriate for the outfit.
“Well, then where are the clothes that fit him?” I thought. IN THE ATTIC. With all of other bins and bins and bins of clothes, toys and gear that I used with Graham and threw willy-nilly in to the hell-hole that is now our attic. I’m not joking when I say hell-hole. It’s like 125 degrees up there.
So, I trudged upstairs and began hauling container after container of clothes down. Turns out, I missed a whole season of clothes that Will could have worn because I was too lazy to go up and look through everything.
Then I began to sort through all of the stuff. What was I thinking? Why did I save dingy onesies and old stained training underwear? Why’d I keep the PJ’s with the holes in the toes or the smocked outfit that I never could get that tomato stain out of? Ridiculous. Not only did I neglect to bring down the clothes, a lot of it was stuff I wouldn’t have even put my kid in anyways. Hand-me-downs are fine, but we’ve all got to have our standards.
So…. all that said, I now have a new motto, 3rd kid or not:
You still have time to consign at the Harris Y sale in September!
I’m not a Y member. Do you have to be to consign?
No you don’t need to be a member. But the consigner slots fill up quickly and they opened it up last week to register
Hi Katie! We totally understand the need to declutter and get rid of the old stuff. Of course, we are always glad to take donations. Locally, we are able to put those donations to good work helping people in our local community get back to work. To see a little more about how our process works, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0MHXVpUksg&feature=plcp
Would love to give you a tour of Goodwill sometime if you are interested in learning more! Thank you so much for your time and for donating!
I try to keep certain things & store them in a hope chest for when my kids have their own kids.
