What should I wear? How should I pose?
These are both big questions I am asked frequently and more so around the Holiday season. What to wear is an easy question for me to answer as a photographer, although all photographers have their own style. I think in years past families were told to match. You know what I’m talking about… Go look around some of your friends parents houses and I am sure over half of them have that beautiful canvas of their entire family standing on a beach sporting there white shirts and blue jeans or khaki pants.
Yes, a beautiful picture… but is it unique? Where is the originality that makes your family stand out and shows you who they really are about? If your son likes fun hats put a hat on him! I really encourage mothers to choose colors that complement each other. If it is fall, stick with a fall color palette and a range of colors. When we all wear the same thing we almost blend into one.
As far as posing… just be comfortable! If you are not really comfortable, how exactly do you expect to look relaxed and natural? So if your son looks up at you with a big toothless grin during our session go with it! The more natural, the better.
And don’t forget… when choosing a photographer to check out their work, and see if their style matches your taste… because no matter what, if you don’t like the clothes, the poses, or the photos, does it really matter?
