Help Bring Awareness and Support NC Families!

Before you read on, here’s the message: We’re asking for awareness for the efforts of Nurse Family Partnership NC! Not your $! Send a tweet on their behalf to make a difference for NC moms!

Did you know each year in North Carolina 21,000 children are born to first-time, low-income mothers?

In many cases, these women are still in high school and face health, education and economic disparities, which perpetuate a vicious cycle of poverty. No matter how a woman arrives at this situation, she needs help and support to ensure healthy outcomes and increased quality of life for her and her child.

Nurse-Family Partnership® (NFP) of North Carolina sees situations like this daily. NFP is an evidence-based home visitation program that pairs nurses with eligible mothers. The program lasts from pregnancy until the child turns two and provides ongoing consultations in the mother’s home. The median age for participating North Carolina mothers is just 19, and the median household income is $13,500. Our nurses work with the mothers to improve pregnancy outcomes, improve the child’s health and development and help increase the economic self-sufficiency of the family.

One of the mothers, Mataia, told us that because of NFP she knows her son, Yani, “can do anything in life he wants – he can dream big, and I know that his dreams can come true.” Of course, this is what all mothers want for their children.

To help make more dreams come true for children like Yani and to give young mothers hope, we need your support! Please help us raise awareness about NFP, and how we’re helping vulnerable families succeed across North Carolina. By simply taking the time to tweet, post an update to Facebook or share this blog post with a friend, it will help us spread the word and could change more lives, having a greater impact on the communities we serve.

We understand how busy mothers can be, so we have provided sample posts for you to use and share with your networks.

Thank you for your support of our program!

Facebook: In North Carolina, Nurse-Family Partnership has served 2,397 mothers, welcomed 1,573 babies and conducted 47,426 home visits. But their work is far from done. Take a look at some of the challenges NC faces and help us spread the word: http://ar.gy/nfpNC
