DIY Map Coasters – Memories Made!

Hi Friends,
I am Carmody of Paper & Fox , your source for Crafty Projects and Clever Ideas. I grew up and live in Charlotte, North Carolina with husband and two little boys. This is one of those projects that was really simple, but also one that I really enjoyed.
DIY Map Coasters from Mom Favorites

Parks and Recreation DIY Map Coasters

My boys and I really love playing outside and we are lucky to live in a city that has nice parks. They are free and open early….what’s not to like. My 5 year old son and I were talking about his favorite parks and I decided to create these little Parks and Rec DIY Map Coasters.

Parks and Rec CoastersI went to Charlotte Mecklenburg Parks and Recreation website and downloaded maps of his favorite parks. Another option is to use a city map to locate and cut out your favorite parks. I tweaked my images with photo editing software and added the name of the park to each image. If you are not good with computers, simply write the name of the park on the printed image with a marker.

Midwood, Independence, Latta and Freedom are my son’s top parks. They are all older parks and with the exception of Freedom park, have a play area covered with trees. Y’all it’s hot in the Queen City.

Parks and Rec CoastersI printed the images on heavy cardstock.

Parks and Rec CoastersI went to a craft store and picked up 4 wood veneer square shapes with rounded corners. I trimmed each image to fit the wood veneer. Then, I attached each image to the wood veneer with Mod Podge. Once each piece was complete dry, I applied a layer of spray varnish over each coaster.

Parks and Rec CoastersThe coasters are sealed and ready to use. In addition to spending more time outdoors in the summer, we also spend more time entertaining. These little coasters will be a great addition to summer cocktails and friends. They would also make for pretty cute personalized gifts.

Thanks for visiting,
Carmody
