Best Beach Reads for a Summer Getaway

The Selection Series: Is your guilty pleasure watching The Bachelor? Did you love Hunger Games? Then this is your series.  Think of it as the unlikely combination of those two cult favorites.  I picked up The Selection on a whim this past fall and I couldn’t put it down.  And then read The Elite, and then The One.   All in a matter of days.  I didn’t plan on getting hooked.  It just… happened.

I hate a spoiler, so I’m not gonna do that here, but the basic gist is – 1 prince. 35 girls.  A country in trouble.  And a boy back home.

I thought the series was just going to be a trilogy, but then when I was “selected” to write a review for The Selection, I was informed that The Heir is coming out on May 5th.  Y’all know what I’ll be doing next weekend.

Other books for your reading list:

The Girl on the Train: I loved Gone Girl (which I read on a beach a few summers back), and have been looking for a similar read.  I found it with The Girl on the Train.  I couldn’t quite put my finger on where the story was going… until the shocking end.  A page turner, to say the least.  And just the perfect amount of disturbing.

Outlander:  This…  This was a fantastic story.  I fell in love.  But, let me warn you – this series will consume you for a year or more.  Each book boasts upwards of 700 pages, and I think there are now 8 or 9 books in the series.  If this excites you rather than overwhelms you, prepare for a great adventure, with just the right amount of historical fiction, fantasy, and sexiness.

The Nightingale: I love WWII fiction, and this was a beautiful story of a woman’s experience in occupied France.  It was a page turner, it made me wonder what kind of person I would have been in those circumstances.  It was just good reading.   It’s the kind of book, that once it ends you want to read more from that author.

Bossypants: Need a light read to lift you mom-spirit? This book will have you laughing, empathizing, and possibly peeing your pants.  In a good way, if there is such a thing!

So that’s my round up of must-reads this summer!  What would you add to the list?

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

My first summer read is one I recommend highly, It’s a Ball by J Morgan McGrady, jmorganmcgrady.com is her site. She is hilarious and without a doubt the best read I have started the summertime with in a long time!

My summer reading list has to have some romance!! I want to recommend the perfect romantic novel called “The Friend Request” by author Charles Soto (http://authorcharlessoto.com). The book has romance, suspense, comedy, drama; everything you could possibly want to entertain you this summer. I could not put it down. It is a Facebook love story that reconnects two high school sweethearts much later in life when they both seem to be reaching their breaking point. Carly is a hard working single mom trying to make the best life possible for her disabled child and Chase is a millionaire business owner who seems to have the “perfect” life until he finds out some pretty shocking news from his business partner (and brother) Sydney. The Friend Request is refreshing and fun and I can’t recommend it enough
