Having a pet is so much more than responsibility. It’s love and partnership, and all things good! How do you know when it’s time to add another furry friend to the family?
There are a lot of dudes in my house. A lot. My only consolation prize is Miss Molly Mae. We’ve been friends for a long time. Before any of these boys came into my life. Molly Mae is a gal’s best friend.
Molly and I became acquainted during a sad time. I had just lost my childhood dog, Brinn, and my dad felt that my spirits would improve if we went to go play with puppies at a shelter. We went to the Charlotte Animal Shelter, which happened to be puppy free at the time, and then we went to the York County Humane Society. Winner-winner. A bundle of boxer-pit bull pups had just arrived.
Seeing the whole lot of them was good for my soul. But when I picked up Molly and she peed on me out of excitement, I knew it was meant to be. That, and those eyes that bore into my soul.
I picked the name Molly from one of my favorite poems by e.e. cummings:
maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles, andmilly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:andmay came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone. For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea
Molly is 12 now. She still has incredible spunk with just a wee bit of gray hair around her muzzle. I hope to age with a fraction of her grace and good looks! Our vet told us that if we are considering to add another dog to our family we might do it soon. Molly could help train the new family member and it might also keep her young. Plus, could I rob my boys of this experience?
Ugh, right? Are you tearing up? IAMS touched on the exact sentiment of why having a family pet is so important to me! IAMS™ dog food helps dogs stay vibrant and active with years of research and dedication to the health of pets. With the right diet, like IAMs, your pet will thrive and receive the benefits of a boosted immunity, assistance with maintaining muscle, and have healthy digestion and reduced tartar buildup.
But, then again I do have three young boys! Can I handle another baby? Thoughts y’all? And, just so you know, the new pup will be a girl, and will probably also be named Maggie or Milly. And then again, it could end up something like Magmag or Wilwee. 🙂
