Attention: Mommas! Create a budget-friendly nursery with these great money-saving tips!
It took awhile, but finally, when I had baby #3, I felt like I finally knew what I was doing. I knew what I needed (diapers and bassinet). I knew where I was going to struggle (lack of sleep and wacky horomones). And I knew what I would love (him). I had most of the “baby stuff” that comes with having lots of kids, but I needed to stock up on essentials and create a nursery that was just for him. Staying within a budget was key (I mean, they are only little for so long, why spend TONS on a room that will change so much over the years), so I found some great ways to save.
Here are my tips for creating a budget-friendly nursery.
1: Stock up on what you need. You need diapers and LOTS of them. With baby #1, I was astounded with the number of diapers we went through so quickly. It was insane. With kids #2 and #3, I made sure to have tons of diapers in various sizes stocked up in the nursery before coming home from the hospital. I also discovered that I didn’t have to pay for the pricey brands. A value-brand of diapers like Kidgets from Family Dollar, will work just fine. Remember – diapers get pooed and peed in.
As long as they hold in what they need to and comfortably fit your child, the diaper is doing it’s job. We’ve been using Kidgets diapers for awhile now and… they do the job without breaking the piggy bank. Yippee!
2: Don’t get what you don’t need. All of those bedding sets? That come with the fitted sheet, quilt, bumper and bed skirt? Guess what? The only thing you’ll actually need from all of that is the crib sheet? Why not just get a few adorable fitted sheets and call it a day? Bumpers are a no-no, as is blankets in the crib. And the bed skirt only works with the crib is in the top position.
3: Decals! Decals are cheap, customizable, and safe! I had this one made up to match our bicycle themed nursery. Not having to buy a huge piece of art was a huge money savings. Plus, now I don’t have to worry about a huge piece of art falling on his head when at 2 or 3, he begins to use his dresser as a ladder. (PS – totally going to try and not let that happen. Also strapped the dresser to the wall. Not my first rodeo, folks.)
4: Decorate with toys. I love functional decorations. I also love buying toys at consignment stores. I stocked up on blocks, stackable toys, and playthings for the little guy that I got at consignment sales, cleaned them up, then used them in the decor.
When he was a newborn, it made his room bright and happy. Now that he’s older, he loves to play with them. Win-win!
What are you money saving nursery tips? Have you tried Kidgets Diapers? What do you think?
