Is it time to get your child a mobile phone? Loving the options available with the Walmart Family Mobile plans!
I have a 2nd grader. How insane is that? I distinctly remember Graham when he was just a few weeks old. I was wandering around Babies ‘R Us, hoping to “bump” into a fellow mom and make a friend. I was desperate for some new-mommy camaraderie and advice. Fortunately, I found my mom-friends. (Although in a playgroup, not while shopping.)
Now, with three kids under my belt and with the fellowship of fabulous moms, I now consider myself well vetted. Apparently so much so, that I feel confident sharing parenting tips with y’all. God bless ya.
It still overwhelms me though when I realizing all that is coming ahead that I have yet to experience as my kids progress through grade school and start asking for things like an email address, a YouTube profile and cell phones. I mean, I didn’t get my first mobile phone until college. What’s the rush?
But then I find myself waiting for the school bus and wishing Graham could text me when they leave the parking lot. Or those times when he’s at a friend’s house and I want t check in on him. And what about an emergency? Yeah, I have a feeling he’ll be toting a cell phone soon. So, just to know what I’m getting into, I popped into Walmart to learn about the Walmart Family Mobile plan, powered by T Mobile, and how we might be able to use the service for when we give our children cell phones. #Gasp
I learned quite a bit from my in-store rep!
First off, I was impressed by the plans and pricing. You can get an Unlimited talk, text and data plan for a single line for just $29.88 a month, which includes 1 GB of 4G LTE data. Upgrade to 3GB of 4G LTE data and unlimited talk text and data for just $39.88/mo. No annual contract and additional lines are available to add to your plan for $5 less no matter which plan you choose, for up to 5 lines. Which works out pretty well for a family of five like mine. 🙂
Once you go over your data allotment, you’re data speed will simply be slowed to 2G data speeds for the rest of your billing cycle. The Walmart Family Mobile Plan is a postpaid plan, so you’ll only pay after each billing period and you can pay in-store or online. I have a feeling when the kids get access to phones, the data is going to be critical!
If you’re an international traveler, you can also purchase an Extra Pack which gives international roaming and long-distance calling to select countries. This is a major bonus, if you ask me.
To purchase a line on the Walmart Family Mobile plan, select a Starter Kit, which is a one-time only purchase for each line that includes a SIM card and activation code. You’ll be able to use it on any unlocked phone and on most GSM phones that use a SIM card. We use the Walmart Family Mobile Plan on a Samsung Galaxy phone and have really enjoyed the service.
And now, I gotta ask…when do you plan to give your child a cell phone or how old were they when you did?
