Snapshot of Fun Fall DIYs!
I love Fall. Something about the coolness in the air spurs my creative genes on to great aspirations. I start projects. Lots of projects. But due to my lovely ENFP personality, many go unfinished.
Remember my cool desk for $35? It’s still out in the garage – currently being used as a Padalily® work station. I thought I’d share some of my past Fall projects to get you motivated to start your own!
This first one is simple and can be used in whatever color and size you want. It would be pretty in aqua and cream in a little girl’s room. The biggest hurdle with this project is the time. You’ll need a level and a ruler or yardstick depending on how big you want your diamonds. Paint your base coat, and let it dry. Then all you do is start drawing lines and making a grid of rectangles across your wall.
The best part? After all the rectangles are drawn, you get to connect the dots at the half way marks and you’ll end up with diamonds! Paint your diamonds and then seal the deal with a glaze. I used a Gold Veil glaze from Lowes on mine. You can finish off the diamonds with furniture tacks, little medallions from the bathroom mirror dept at lowes, or I just painted black dots on with a stencil to get the size I wanted.
Last Fall I was desperate for drapes in my living room, but I’m kind of busy running a company and didn’t have time to sew. I found some discounted dupioni silk for $3/yard cut it into 4 extra long pieces, and just clipped it up on some rods. I folded it over at the top and bottom so they look hemmed. I realized right away that I didn’t want them so transparent, so I clipped some cheap target drapes with them so now they look lined. Perfection for those lazier creative gals! J
I have a gazillion of these creative spurts going on in my house, so stay tuned I’l be sharing more next month! Have fun and don’t be afraid to try something new! We all have a little creativity hiding down in us – set it free!
