If you are anything like my family, you only seek out local attractions when you have visitors in town. But after my experience yesterday, I am encouraged to explore more of what my city has to offer for my resident-self and not just my guests.
If exciting, exotic vacations aren’t in your foreseeable future, here are a few ideas on how you and your family can have fun being tourists in Charlotte:
– Take a walking tour of downtown Charlotte hosted by the Levine Museum of New South (offered on Mondays, by the way, not Fridays as someone’s husband may have thought….)
– Explore the new Wells Fargo Cultural Campus which houses the Bechtler Modern Art Museum, the Harvey Gantt Museum, and the soon to open Mint Museum.
– Let the kids burn some energy at Imaginon and Discovery Place
– Visit the downtown Farmer’s Market at Trade and Tryon (check the website for the schedule)
– Check out the new Nascar Hall of Fame (Ok, I know, this may be a stretch for some of us).
– After exploring center city, jump on the light rail and head to South End/Dilworth where you can explore fun antique shops, locally owned boutiques, and grab a bite to eat (or a milkshake at Pike’s Soda Shop)
– When you’re ready to wind down, hop on the light rail again, get off at the Scaleybark stop, and finish your day out at Old Mecklenburg Brewery (call it OMB if you want to feel cool), Charlotte’s first craft-brewery complete with a child-friendly beer garden.
