Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Now I’ve got a dirty house, piles of laundry to do, and an inbox with over 650 emails. Joy. So, instead of cleaning, folding clothes or cooking dinner, I’d like to procrastinate in the form of sharing a few helpful tips for hitting the beach this summer with your little ones.
First, I’d recommend buying stock in a sunscreen company. Preferably one that offers continuous spray sunscreen (once sandy, the lotion stuff is no good) in adult and kid varieties. You’ll go through bottles of the stuff per day. At least we did. I’d never forgive myself if my little guy burned his baby soft skin.
Second, I’d suggest packing a cooler chocked full of water (and Coronas!). You don’t want to have to let the little ones get dehydrated, and you want to make sure you get good and relaxed too. Forget the milk. No guarantees that’ll stay a safe temperature in the hot sun.
Next, load up a tote with tons of cups, buckets, shovels, etc. The more toys they have to entertain themselves with, the longer you’ll have to get through a chapter or two of your beach-read. And enjoy your Corona and lime in peace.
Finally, what we learned on the last day…. the best place for toddlers to play is just above where the water breaks. They’ll occasionally get a rogue wave to make things exciting, but they won’t get knocked over in the surf, and the sand is perfect for sand castle building (or smooshing). Set up shop and plan on hours of entertainment.
Happy Summer,
