I Heart my Minivan, by Guest Blogger Jess Bailey

They say that life is a journey, not a destination. For me, life is an Odyssey. That’s right folks, I’m talking about my Honda Odyssey. Buying and driving a minivan was anything but my life-long dream. However, after now having owned it for a little over a year, I can honestly say, I LOVE IT!!! Dave and I often talk about winning the lottery (incidentally, we seldom play), and in our imaginary 6-car garage of our most sought-after vehicles, right there in the mix is my Odyssey.

This car does it all. I can’t remember the last time I manually opened a car door. If it doesn’t open and close with the push of a key fob button, I’m burdened. A quick pull here and snap there, my entire backseat folds down into itself and I can pretty much fit anything back there. Case in point, I went to an airport playdate a few weeks back in the sweltering heat. I opened up the back, cranked up the A/C, and let three 2-year-olds run up and down the aisle while gazing at the arriving and departing planes. To be honest, I’m pretty sure those kids were way more entertained by my van than the airplanes. I’m telling you, it’s like the gift that keeps on giving.

I know it’s a hard sell for many. Most of my friends have flat-out told me that they would rather endure more inconvenience, and settle for less space than actually be seen driving a minivan. I can empathize. But I think as long as I have young kids to transport and consequently, endless stuff to pack, I’ll be sporting my swagger wagon!

Mothers prefer a minivan over other types of cars, because it’s one of the most practical vehicles for the family. Aside from the automatic sliding doors, it also has more seats for the whole family. I do not have a minivan yet. But we’re open for possibilities of owning one after we have our third baby next year. =)
