I do have to confess, that one of these gifts was a blessing in disguise. Upon first glance, the Wedgits seemed to be a construction set with dozens of blocks sure to get lost under the couch and under the bed. But now, it’s my best friend. Anything that brings peace and quite to my home can be my best friend.
How does a set of blocks become so valuable? Well, every day, my son negotiates his nap. No nap without a sufficient prize at the end. And lately, rather than watching snippets of the Cars movie for the bazillionth time, getting a sugary treat, or playing trains, Graham is content to negotiate a “really good nap” for playing blocks with his mom or dad upon waking up. Yep, that works. Creativity, motor-skill development, and learning shapes and colors disguised as play… next thing you know he’ll be asking for a “really good nap” and then a veggie tray!
Wedgits come in several different sizes and sets for various developmental ages ranging from one to pre-teen. They also have purple and pink sets if you’re one of those parents with a girl and has to have gender-defining block sets. (Don’t mind my judgemental tone. Just jealous!) We have the standard Wedgit set, but plan to add to it this Christmas. You can find them at the Bedford Falls Toys and Book Store at the Park Road Shopping Center.
