Because Father’s Day is this weekend, Charlotte Mom Favorites would like to dedicate this post to the Dads. And, because you all deserve a gift, we’d like to present you with this check-list guaranteed to ensure more peace for all at home.
What to do when: Baby is crying.
Dad’s natural reaction: “Hey hon, the baby needs to be fed.”
Alternative suggestions:
Pick baby up.
Bounce baby.
Sway baby.
Change baby’s diaper.
Give baby pacifier.
Swaddle baby.
Turn on white noise for baby.
Repeat process.
If baby is still crying, then just maybe try this, “Honey, I know that you just fed the baby, but I’ve tried the baby checklist and he’s still crying. Would you mind trying to feed the baby again? I love you.”
What to do when: You smell poop.
Dad’s natural reaction: Check work email and get pulled into an “emergency.”
Alternative suggestions:
Change the diaper.
Wipe the bum.
Apply necessary bum cream.
Throw diaper away.
Change baby’s outfit if necessary.
What to do when: You end up with the kids alone.
Dad’s natural reaction: Sit the kids down for a little Thomas the Train on TV and get in an afternoon nap.
Alternative suggestions:
Entertain kids.
Unload dishwasher.
Vacuum floors.
Fold laundry.
Feed kids.
Clean kids.
Repeat process.
Upon mom’s return tell her (despite how easy or hard you found the time to be), “Wow, honey, your job is really challenging. I don’t know how you do it!”
All joking aside, dads, we appreciate you! We know your job is really challenging. We don’t know how you do it. But thanks for sticking with us through thick and thin, we couldn’t do it without you!
Enjoy your day!
