I have a few friends that are expecting their first child. And since we all have advice for those about to embark upon that wonderful journey of parenthood, I thought I’d offer my own two cents.
1. Go out as much as you can!
2. Skip the “How to Birth a Baby Class.” Trust me, you’ll figure it out.
3. Appreciate silence whenever you happen to be in it.
4. Take super-long showers.
5. Sleep. Whenever. Wherever. Bank some extra hours. You’ll need them.
But, I don’t think they’ll really appreciate my advice until after that “little bundle of joy” arrives. So instead, I’ll offer a few tips that expectant moms might heed:
2. Load up on Trumpette socks. They’re ludicrously expensive for baby socks, but they actually stay on. Dunno why, but they do, and little toesies like to stay warm.
3. Unless your baby’s room is directly next to your own, skip stressing out over the nursery. Chances are, they won’t sleep in it for some time anyway. Instead, set up a bassinet and diaper changing kit in your own room.
4. Have a few different sizes of diapers available for when you get home from the hospital. You never know which ones will fit the best until you try them.
5. Swaddle. Swaddle. Swaddle. I had the best luck with the Halo Sleep Sack.
Best of luck to all of you new moms-to-be!
Or maybe I just need to go back to swaddle school.
