So, I’m thinking I’m gonna give Larry Sprinkle a go at it. You know, the energetic weatherman from News Channel 36? The one with the hair? Yep, that’s the one. I’m going to let him try to capture my kids’ attentions while reading them a story. And you can challenge him with your children too!
Cheerios®, through its Spoonfuls of Stories® program, is putting six million free children’s books inside specially-marked cereal boxes, while supplies last. To celebrate the program’s 10th anniversary and encourage parents to read with their children, Cheerios will hold special “Breakfast & A Book” reading events in select cities across the country, including Charlotte.
During the event, News Channel 36 weatherman and community volunteer Larry Sprinkle will read a selection of in-pack titles to local children, all of whom will go home with three new books. Cheerios will also donate 5,000 books and $500 to First Book Charlotte, the volunteer chapter of First Book, a national nonprofit that helps ensure children from low-income families have age-appropriate books at home.
The six titles now appearing in Cheerios boxes have been specially printed in both English and Spanish and are appropriate for children ages three to eight. Since the program’s inception in 2002, Cheerios has distributed more than 60 million free children’s books inside boxes and donated more than $3.8 million to First Book.
