Will has transitioned from screaming from the moment we enter the pool to a well-adjusted splashing baby that can hold his breath under water and climb out of a pool. Talk about learning the essentials for swim safety. We’ve mastered it. I will never ever ever leave him near a body of water without watching him like a hawk, but knowing that he has some basic swim skills soothes my mind as we enter the summer season.
Yep, Will has accomplished quite a bit for his baby-self. But, the big moment this week came when GRAHAM SWAM BY HIMSELF!!!! I’m sure I made a fool of myself jumping up and down and clapping in the quite indoor pool area, but I was beside myself. Graham kicked, screamed and threw tantrums for the duration of our first several weeks of classes at Charlotte Aquatics, and now my boy is swimming short distances both on his belly AND his back. I mean, color me super-duper impressed.
I caught video of the second time my little man did some solo-swimming. To the untrained eye, you may be completely underwhelmed by this video, but for any parent that has been there, or is dealing a child that is terrified of taking the leap to swimming unassisted, prepared to be blown away.
May I present to you, Graham, The Amazing Swimmer:

Congrats to Graham! You are a swimming shark!! It’s the best feeling when your child starts to swim on their own. My daughter has been going to Charlotte Aquatics since she was a year old and she’s swimming in the 2B level now (she’s 3) Charlotte Aquatics is a great facility and the staff there are amazing! I would highly recommend one session for your child.
It was definitely a BIG day! Glad you’ve also had a great experience there. I love Charlotte Aquatics!
