June 27, 2012 Mom Time

We’re Chiquita Moms, June Edition, vol. 4: Beach Games

I’m mixing it up this week.  I usually go over everyone’s post for the week and tell you what you’re missing.  Well, let’s just cut to the chase: you’re missing some good stuff.  To see the killer blog posts by my fellow Chiquita Moms, visit: http://www.chiquitamoms.com/category/relate/.

But, I realized when I began to pull the content together for this post, that I alluded to my sharing additional beach games beyond what I shared with the Chiquita Moms.  And ya know what? I completely forgot to share them with y’all.

I happen to know that most of you guys are at the beach right now.  So, while you’re there, you’re gonna wanna entertain the kids long enough to drink one or two coronas and flip through a magazine.  Here are some games/strategies that will keep the kids happy and allow you a little well-deserved R&R:

Sand Darts:

Get something throw-able that won’t injure innocent by-standers.  I happened to have bean bags that I brought with me, but really ziploc bags filled with sand could do in a pinch.  In the sand draw a target with a bulls-eye and surrounding circles marked with point-values.  Have the kids aim for the highest scoring circles.
You’d be surprised by how happy the kids will be playing this very simple game.

Beach Bowling:

This was a WINNER with our group.  Get a bunch of balls: tennis balls worked like a charm for this one.  Next, let the kids dig a bunch of deep-ish holes in the sand kinda near each other.  Then, from a reasonable distance (consider the age of each kid) have the kids attempt to bowl the balls into the holes to collect points.  I’m telling you, this is a time-killer for the kiddos.

Buried Treasure:

Looking for a craft to entertain the kids before you leave the beach and a way to entertain the tots once you are there?  Check out this game.  I have the details on the ChiquitaMoms.com community.  This was my favorite of the beach games we played during our  most recent trip to Tybee Island.  We’ll be toting this one with us for many beach trips to come!
