Whenever I purchase a baby or children’s product I’m always amazed by the literature that comes with it. A stinkin’ teething toy has a five page pamphlet on how to operate the darn thing.
But, clearly it’s not that simple. Why? Because everything has a hazard associated with it when it comes to handing it to your child: BPA, lead paint, strangulation, suffocation, choking hazard, etc. Really, it’s a daunting list. And one I really don’t want to have to think about too often.
Keep baby monitor cords at least 3 feet away from cribs to avoid strangulation. |
Thankfully, I don’t worry on a daily basis about the safety of the toys I’ve given to my children. I don’t worry, because I’ve signed up for the Consumer Products Safety Commission Recall list. Whenever an infant or children’s recall hits the news, I know about it. In fact, I’ve had several products I’ve owned that have been recalled including a BOB stroller (which I fixed and continue to love), an Evenflo high chair (which is no longer in use), and cabinet safety locks (also no longer in use).
General frustrations, minor injuries, amputations and deaths can be prevented by keeping up to date on safety information regarding the products in your home. Take a few minutes and sign up to receive the periodic email updates. Better safe than sorry.
