The Mom’s Guide to Car Organization: Tips and Giveaway!

I organize after things get really bad.  When my closet, or a drawer, or my car hits total mayhem, I go into full-on organizing mode.  And generally, I do a good job of maintenance once the initial system is in place.

In an effort to be prepared for an upcoming road trip, and also to lighten the moods of everyone in the car while running about around town, I’ve tackled my car with every organization tool that makes sense to me.

Here are some things you can do to keep you prepared when on the go:

1.  Sturdy container in your trunk or storage area.  In mine you’ll find: picnic blankets, sand toys for the park, wet wipes, sunscreen and resuable grocery bags.
2.  Car charger.  This is a must for anyone on the go.  Especially in my line of work!
3.  Trash bin.  I found an oversized food storage container with a snap lid at the Container Store.  I’m storing a handful of grocery bags at the bottom for future use.
4.  Medical Kit.  I always keep this fully loaded in my car to handle any bumps, bruises or stings that come our way.
5.  Air freshener.  I’m so tired of my car smelling like a combo of dirty diaper and spoilt milk.  Now it smells like Fresh Cotton.  Much better.  You can get something similar at Bath & Body Works.

I also refreshed my reading material for car pool lines, extended passenger rides, and for whenever I’m waiting in the car.  I added a magazine, crossword puzzle book, and then also happen to keep my coupon books in the center console of the car so they are always with me.

Next up: the Personal Emergency Car Kit!  I’ve put the essentials in a bag to keep in the glove box.  Items of importance included: a brush, deodorant, ibuprofen, on-the-go tooth brushes, hair ties, toilet paper, feminine hygeine products, a pen, and wet ones.   A mom can not have too many wet ones!
Each kid also gets their own pack in the car.  I always keep them filled with the essentials.  Whenever something gets used, the bag gets brought back into the house, re-filled then back to the car for our next trip.

Another key component to car organization with kids is to make sure snacks and drinks stay contained while in the car.  The Brica Deluxe Snack Pod comes in handy for this.  The pod attaches to most any car seat (or stroller for that matter) and keeps drink and snacks within reach.  You can remove the containers from the base for easy cleaning.

The end goal of this whole car-organizing business?  Smiles for everyone when we’re in the car.  I’d say we have success!  If you need a little help in the car organization department, enter to win our Brica Deluxe Snack Pod Giveaway!  For an eligible entry, be sure to submit by Friday, July 27th.  The winner, who will be selected by Random.org and announced on Monday, July 30th will be the recipient of their very own Brica Snack Pod!

You can get up to four entries. You’ll get one each time you:

I have a stash of cheap dollar tree toys in the front seat for the “meltdown” moments”. Who doesn’t love a surprise!? They stay in a small, discreet container in the front seat. ~Sarah Flory

My favorite tip is from Pinterest! You take a big plastic cereal container (the plastic kind with a lid that opens) put a bag inside and velcro it to the center console and you have a trash can!
