This Top Five list is from Beth W., mom to three under three. Her oldest turned 3 in April, and she also has an 18 month old and now a 4 month old – all girls, all sassy. She’s been pregnant for about 75% of her marriage!!! I’m sure she’s heard it all, and this is her list:
Top 5 Things You Should NEVER Say To or Do To A Pregnant Woman:
1. You MUST be having twins or triplets – I’ll be the first to admit I gain A LOT of weight (close to 60 lbs with all 3 pregnancies). However, I have had no twins, or triplets. Please do not assume I have half of a basketball team growing in my stomach – I just use being pregnant as an excuse to visit the local DQ for Hot Eats AND Cool Treats on a regular basis.
2. Have you dilated yet? – Really?? Really?? Those details even make my husband uncomfortable. I’m not about to share that information with the random 60 year old woman in the checkout line at Target (and the 50 other people staring at the pregnant woman with 2 other small kiddos in her cart like I might have 3 heads).
3. Rub my belly for more than 3 seconds – Please don’t. I don’t know what it is about being pregnant. You would think I was wearing a shirt that said Please Awkwardly Rub My Belly reminiscing on your preggo days. A small pat or rub is fine – if I know you. Again with the grandmas at Target – please stop.
4. I’ll give you $100 to name it after me – No. First off… $100? That’s it? I might have considered it if the price was higher. I have 3 girls and I am definitely running out of names and was open to suggestions during my 3rd pregnancy, but you’ll have to up your offer there, Christina.
5. Do You Know What Causes That? – Yes, everyone. I know I have 3 SMALL children. Yes, I know about the birds & the bees. However, I did not know that taking antibiotics decreased effectiveness of birth control (i.e. Baby #2). But please don’t look at me and think I need a sex ed course.
I would love to hear other people’s awkward preggo moments. I hope I’m not the only one that gets too much attention. So let’s hear it! What do you know want to be told when you’re pregnant?
