We all get stressed from time to time, some more that others. Everyone deals with stress in different ways. Some of us reach for that chocolate bar, which is full of fat and unhealthy ingredients; some opt for a quick fix by going to a fast food restaurant.
At the time you won’t worry about it, but then the guilt falls upon us and our ‘new diet regime’ has flown out the window!
In this post I am going to give you some stress reducing foods, the healthier choice to take when we want to pull our hair out!
Sweet Potatoes
When your body feels so stressed out, it seems to crave carbohydrates, and you would normally go buy yourself some fries or something along those lines. Well instead of that, why not try some sweet potatoes? Sweet potatoes have a low glycemic index rating. This means that they release a slow steady source of energy.
Turkey
Turkey contains amino acid tryptophan. When you eat turkey the brain releases a chemical called serotonin – the feel good chemical. When serotonin is released by the brain, it gives us a calm feeling. Turkey is a must in your diet if you lead a stressful life!
Avocados
Most people are under the impression that avocados are bad for you. Well let me tell you that avocados are full of good fats, the good monounsaturated fats. These fats, along with the potassium contained in an avocado, give avocados the power to throw stress out the window!
Bananas
Research has shown that foods rich in potassium, are linked to lower blood pressure. Bananas (and avocados) are packed full of potassium.
Salmon and Tuna
Up until recently, many people around the world had not heard of omega 3s in oily fish, and now you can’t go anywhere without hearing about them, which is fantastic! Omega 3s in fish such as salmon and tuna, are widely regarded as the best tress reducing food.
So there you have it, 5 foods (well technically 6!) that can reduce stress. Everyone goes through some sort of stress throughout their lives, and unfortunately some people don’t know how to deal with it.
Whether it is work, family, financial or any other stress, there are ways to overcome it. Even going for a workout will help you a lot.
