Me Time. That’s a phrase moms don’t get to hear often enough. I don’t get a lot of Me Time that doesn’t involve fitness or grocery shopping, but I do try and get out of the house to do what I want to do every now and then. I have a variety of places that I go when I need to escape.
In the rare moments when I get to shed the kids, leave the diaper bag at home, and hit the road with the tunes blaring, here are some of the places I might turn up:
Container Store, South Park. Yes, I realize this is an odd choice, but I do love organization and enjoy taking a casual stroll down the aisles dreaming of ways to contain the mayhem that I left behind at home.
Barnes & Noble, Morrison Place. My moment of zen is found at my local bookstore. I grab a chai latte, a handful of foodie magazines and hole up in a corner for as long as possible. No train tables for me!
Freedom Park, Dilworth. If it’s a nice day, what’s better than a space of lawn, a blanket, a good book, and no one to interrupt you? Not much.
Matthews Community Farmer’s Market, Matthews. When Me Time falls on a Saturday morning, I like to head to the farmer’s market. I browse the local farmer and artisan booths at leisure, have more than enough hands to carry what I want, nibble on breads and cheeses, then grab a coffee at Dilworth Coffee around the corner. Ahhhh….
Ballantyne Spa, Ballantyne. If I’m a really luck girl, (i.e. it’s been a super long time since I’ve gotten some alone time), I head to the Ballantyne Spa. I hang in the lounge, sip on flavored waters, munch on some nuts and dried fruit and read a magazine (or five). Next, I head to get a massage. When you book a service you can enjoy the spa amenities for as long as you like, so after the massage I like to head to the hot tub or sauna. Me thinks I need another day at the spa sooner than later!
