Just in the (Saint) nick of time, I have completed my Christmas 2012 “In It To Win It List.” I gotta admit, it did start out as a sort of joke. I never really did intend to make a gingerbread house with the boys (we don’t like sticky stuff in this house), and I really hate acrylic paints (yep, I got a big ol’ green splotch on my favorite sweater). But, I am super-duper glad I made that list.
Without it I would have missed out on one of my favorite momma-memories to-date. Cuddling with the hubs and my babies on the couch, drinking chocolate milk (well, the adults were drinking beer) and noshing on popcorn during Charlie Brown’s Christmas special. I’ve never seen Will that still in my life. I got in more cuddles and warm-fuzzies that night than any mom deserves.
Without the list, I wouldn’t have had a Coat Drive playdate and rounded up 22 coats for children that will no longer have to freeze their tushes waiting for the bus on cold January mornings.
Without the list, I wouldn’t have adorable handprint ornaments hanging from my tree that I’ll cherish for decades. And that sweater with the green stain on the elbow? I think it just became more cherished. It’s got a great memory with it now.
So although, my list started out as a joke, and at points was a burden, I got more happy memories out of this Christmas season than I ever would have expected.
Lists are great. Especially when they encourage merriment, happiness and the joys of the season. Whether you had a list or not I hope you took some time to enjoy the spirit of the season.
Merry Christmas,
Katie
