Spring Trends 2013: For the Mom-Set

spring trends 2013

Who doesn’t love spring?  I don’t trust anyone that doesn’t admit to spring as their favorite season.  I mean, seriously… longer, brighter evenings, trees and flowers are budding, and we get to shed our winter layers for bright and fun airy clothes.  SPrIng!!! I love spring!

As an ode to spring, I thought I’d go through some of my favorite websites and pull a few great looks that us moms  can rock as the warmer weather greets us.  Sure, our legs may be pale (and sometimes hairy), but bring on the shorts!  Bring on the flowers (on the ground AND on our clothes) and let’s do a little 80’s throw-back while we’re at it.  Drum roll please…..

bermuda short

Bright Bermuda Shorts: These lovelies are from JCrew!  Pair them with a white button down and a necklace and you’re ready to go anywhere from the playground to a night out with the girls!

black and white

One of the most wearable trends of the season? Black and white! I’ve got a closet full of these non-colors so this one should be easy, but I do love this dress from eShakti.  At $60, I might even snag it still!

We’re gonna kill two birds with one stone with this next look!  Welcome Emerald Green, the Color of the Year.  Combining our color of the year, with the DRESS of the year (hello, shirtdress), we’ve got a winning look from Gap.  Plus, a shirtdress flatters almost any body type.  Isn’t that grand?

flats

Finally, a shoe style that’s mom-friendly…. Flats are in style, gals!  Woohoo!  I (sadly) fell in love with these Kate Spade Cork and Gold tipped flat.  At $228, they will likely remain a dream for me, but serves as great inspiration for my next pair of bargain shoes!

Flowers! Now, it doesn’t have to be this girly.  If flowers aren’t typically your thing, pick a larger flower print in more basic colors (like red, or yellow on white).  I however, think that this floral peasant top from Anthropologie will be super cute with our next look…  (And yes, I’m pretty sure I owned that shirt in middle school circa 1989.  Don’t judge)

Pastel (or Neon) Cropped Skinny Jeans!  Admittedly, this look is a little tough to pull off.  It’s no small feat to find a great fitting skinny jean.  Especially if you’re going to rock it in a bright color.  I did happen to find a pair that I love at Target (pronounced Tar-Jay in this house), and for $22, I’m not going to worry if this look goes out of style next year!

Let’s wrap up our look with my favorite accessory: the statement necklace.  What’s funny, is I feel all dressed up and ready to go as long as I’ve got a big ol’ necklace around my neckline.  Never mind I’m wearing yoga pants and t-shirt with spit up on it!  I really love this Ivory and Gold Bib Necklace from Stella & Dot.  Hint, hint!  I think Mother’s Day is coming up….

Love that Shakti Black and White, and I don’t even wear those colors!! Would definitely pair it with some patent orange shoes and jewelry

I love these trends. I just bought a bunch of new spring outfits from Burlington Coat Factory. They had some really great dresses, as well as nice casual clothes that I couldn’t resist. I saved about $150 on my purchases. I also found some great light weight jackets at http://www.burlingtoncoatfactory.com. While I don’t need everything I bought, I really couldn’t resist their prices.
