July 2, 2013 Mom Time

The Starting Line: #100MileMom

100milemom

I heard a little rumor… It’s July.  JULY!  What?  I mean, beyond the fact that the summer year is flying by, July is the month that is to start the 100 Mile Mom Challenge.  Yep.  And we’re already one day down.  Sorry y’all.  Yesterday got away from me.

So, what is the 100 Mile Mom Challenge, you ask?  It’s a challenge to move your booty.  For 100 miles.  Run, walk, crawl, bike, swim, elliptical,  just MOVE!  You’ve got 31 days (or make that 30, since I’m a day late in getting this to you), to complete the challenge.  That works out to 3.23 miles a day (if you started yesterday) or 3.33 miles if you are starting today.

How does one accomplish this?  By making exercise a priority every. single. day.  No excuses.  If it’s raining, run.  If you’re exhausted, split up your workout in two: walk in the morning, crawl in the evening.  Just move.  There are some great tools available to help you stay on track.

I plan to log every single workout on DailyMile.com.   If you want to “Friend” me there, this is the link to my profile.  On Daily Mile, you enter the data from your workout and friends can motivate you as you reach your goals.  (Plus, you can see how your distance stacks up to your friends.  Fun for a little friendly competition such as this!)

I use a Garmin Forerunner to track my runs.  You can get them for $130, which although is an investment, has single-handedly saved from buying a treadmill or gym membership.  It tracks your pace, distance, time and calories burned.

If you aren’t ready to invest in a GPS watch, and you have a smart phone, try the Map My Run app.  It’s free and offers the basics of a GPS watch.

And, if none of those are your thing, just map out a run on Google Maps and go from there.  Time isn’t really important in this challenge.  Just moving.

We’ll pepper you with giveaways and incentives for participating…. Just join us!  It doesn’t matter why you’re doing it, just do it!  (Nike really did have something with that slogan!)

So, WHO’S IN?????

The running app from Nike will keep track of your miles, calories burn, etc. You can also choose if you run indoor or outdoors and plays your music too.

I was on vacation with family this week so I was unable to run, but I used my pedometer app everywhere we went and got in about 11 miles.
