Dear Will: On Your Second Birthday

love letter to my son

Dear Will,

Oh sweet boy.  You are two.  When I look at you today, sporting a bow-tie and blazer, you could be 15.  But to me, you’ll always be my baby.  My baby that can house five pancakes.  My baby that clings to me during swim lessons.  My baby that shouts “Ah-wah Bah!”  (Translation: All Aboard!)  My baby that whispers”I buh boo Mah.”  (Translation: I love you Mom.)

You love life.  You run around the house chasing your brother with the happiest giggles I’ve ever heard.  You embrace every day with unbridled enthusiasm.  You smile, you clap, you high five, and you love to play.  Blocks get built into towers and knocked down.  Molly gets loving tackles.

Your brother has the best playmate in the world; your dog loves you. Your parents adore you.

I thought I’d want to keep you as my little snuggle-muffin forever, but I’m learning that I love you every day.  Every day that you grow and learn a new “trick.” Every day that you wake up with a new word.  Every day that I see that dimpled smile and your bright eyes batting at me with a devilish flirt.  You’re gonna be a heart-breaker.  The ladies will want you to smile at them, like you smile at me.  The men will always enjoy your lively company.

But no matter where you go in life there’s one thing you need to know:  I’ll love you forever. I’ll like you for always. As long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be.

With love,

Mommy
