Anyone that knows me knows two things: That I love to eat, and I love to run. Fortunately doing the one, helps out with the other. I’ve pretty much been in love with food my entire adult life. Unfortunately, I didn’t discover my love for running until after I had children. Which means…. stroller running.
Stroller running can be enjoyable. I’ve been lucky in that my children have never minded being in the stroller, even for long periods of time. But any parent that is a regular stroller runner knows this: Every day is harder. In most exercise scenarios, the more you do, the easier it is. In stroller running, every time your kid gains an ounce, you push an extra ounce. “No Graham, for the love of God, please don’t have a second helping of ice cream!!!”
Just kidding. Kind of.
So, since I’m a stroller runner by nature, I was really excited to see The Stroller Roller 5K – a race that not only allows runners with strollers, but encourages them. And raises funds for the Levine Children’s Hospital, a facility that anybody pushing a stroller can get behind.
Here are some of the details:
The Stroller Roller 5K was founded by Court Creeden of Parent Financial with the goal of creating a 5K that the entire family can take part in. During the race moms and dads run and walk with their little ones in strollers, wagons, and decorated buggies. Parents with multiple children may have infant in the stroller and have older children who walk or run alongside them. In a community that has amazing resources like Levine Children’s Hospital, the goal was to establish an event that would show those families who need the services of the hospital that the other parents in the community support them and want to make sure they have access to the best doctors, resources, and facilities possible.
The Stroller Roller 5k is a special day for the parents in our community to have a great time with their family while supporting those other parents and children who are benefiting from the Levine Children’s Hospital. The race is on October 19th and all benefits go directly to Levine Children’s Hospital. Last year as part of the Hope Builders Event we combined to raise $160,000 for the hospital!!
