Sick pets are the pits. But, life can be a little easier when managing the whole family’s prescriptions needs (even your pets’) at Walgreens.
As a mom, you get used to cleaning up the bodily fluids of others. Snot, poo, pee… it’s just part of the job. And, while I didn’t expect it to be such a large part of being a mom, I’ve come to accept it. When my kid gags, I throw my hand out in front of his mouth in case anything comes out. Green snot and no tissue? A shirt, anyone’s shirt will do. So, while I’m very used to managing such things, I don’t love it. And I really don’t love it when my dog gets thrown into the mix.
Changing a diaper and wiping a nose is one thing. Cleaning up dog pee from the carpet multiple times a day is quite another. Especially for a dog who at 11 years of age knows better. It has become such a problem that it merited a trip to the vet. One hour and $300 bucks later we had no answer. “We’ll run a few more tests then call you with the results,” they said. Awesome. I’m sure that’ll be cheap.
Several days later when the doc gave me a ring, we didn’t have anything definite yet, but my vet had a hunch. Diabetes. A rare form of diabetes. “Okay, so what do we need to do?”
“We’ll just need you to catch your dog’s first morning urine for five days and then bring the samples back in to us,” was the casual response.
My head was spinning. Diabetes? For a dog? Gracious. The vet said it was going to be difficult to manage the diabetes, but with regular medication, it could be done. It didn’t even occur to me to think about how we were to come to this diagnosis:
Catch my dog’s first morning urine. Huh?
So, he said it like it was a normal thing – this, catching urine. Like, I’m supposed to just run up behind my pup taking a squat and throw a tupperware container under there? And she’s not gonna wonder what the heck is going on? I’m sure it’s going to be a sight… my pajama-clad, very-pregnant self running around the back yard in the wee hours of the morning trying to “catch” dog pee. Bust out the camera folks. This has viral Youtube video written all over it.
And then what? Put it on the counter? Refrigerate it? Yay. Good thing she’s cute.
Okay, all joking aside, I’ll do what it takes to get my Molly Mae straightened out. She’s a member of the family. She was there before my husband and children. She was a second mom to my babies, always watching and protecting. She runs around the yard with Will by day and sleeps at the bottom of Graham’s bed by night.
She deserves to be healthy, and I’m gonna get her there. Once this urine-catching business is complete, I plan to manage her diagnosis, whether it turns out to be diabetes or some other condition as needed… with the help of Walgreens.
I had no idea, until recently, that I can get her prescriptions at the Walgreen’s pharmacy instead of my vet’s office which is across town. And, since it’s likely that I’ll become a frequent pet-med-prescription-purchaser this is particularly handy. I’ve gone ahead and registered Molly online…
To sign up your pet and to transfer any prescriptions over to your Walgreen’s pharmacy, simply visit this link.
Not only is it easy to sign up, but you can also check prices online, so you know you’re getting the best price possible. Because, although you’ll do anything you need to keep that sweet pup healthy (as indicated by my willingness to catch pee), it may as well be at the best price possible! And, don’t forget to sign up for Balance Rewards so you can earn points for future purchases!
Wish Molly and me luck. We’re gonna need it. And if you’re looking for a good laugh, meet me in my backyard tomorrow, say 6am-ish. We’ll make it a party.
Oh, no! Hope all goes well. My MIL’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer was just diagnosed with Diabetes and they have to do insulin shots. I promise that is not easy… they also need to keep him away from all table scraps and dropped food. But, none of us could imagine life without the little guy. It is love that keeps you doing it. #client
