12 Don’t Miss Tips – Pet Safety for Summer Months:
Make sure that your dog always has a shady spot to rest in.
Never leave your dog in a closed vehicle on a hot day.
During backyard parties, don’t let guests give your pup people food which can cause stomachaches or worse! Keep treats on hand for guests who want to reward your dog.
Always provide plenty of cool, fresh water.
Keep dogs off of lawns that have been chemically treated or fertilized for 24 hours.
Dogs, especially those with short hair, white fur, and pink skin, can sunburn. Limit your dog’s exposure during the day and apply sunblock to his ears and nose 30 minutes before going outside.
Avoid hot pavement and sidewalks that can burn your pups paws.
If you’re swimming for the first time with your dog, start in shallow water and coax him in by calling his name. Encourage him with toys or treats. Or, let him follow another experienced dog he is friendly with.
Be sure all children are supervised when near your dog to avoid any roughhousing.
Limit exercise on hot days.
Watch out for heatstroke. Symptoms include panting, vomiting, lethargy, drooling and collapse.
Brush your pet! A lighter coat helps keep pup cool. If she has trouble sitting for a good brushing, keep treats nearby.
I picked up a summer supply of them during a recent shopping jaunt to Walmart. I love that they are USA-made and free of fillers. They also come in a variety of flavors for the most discerning gourmand pup including Health and Wellness Chicken, Beef, Bacon and Duck.
Give them a try with this offer from Nudges. Happy Memorial Day, and don’t forget to share your #NudgesMoments with #CollectiveBias!
