Me Time for Moms Is More Accessible When you Set Priorities!
I just got off the phone with another mom-friend of mine. We were trying to find time to meet together without kids. Hah! With 5 (let’s say 5.5) kids between us, that task was nearly impossible. Needless to say, time is a precious commodity in the mom-world. It’s tough to come by, and when we do, we savor it.
Experienced moms can make me-time away from the kids fun under almost any circumstance. Grocery stores sans kids become a leisurely stroll with coffee-in-hand. Car maintenance becomes time to catch up on a few magazines while listening to Pandora. And even the car pool line can be time to browse facebook and pinterest. Yes, I make the most of of time alone.
Lately, I’ve been prioritizing taking me-time every morning and evening for my a daily cleansing ritual. Sounds fancy, but I swear it’s not. It does make me feel special, though..
I went through my beauty and hygiene supplies dumping the old products I don’t love, and replacing them with what makes me feel and smell good. First step – bye-bye facial wipes. These were replaced with a great Daily Cleansing Mask, Toner and AM/PM moisturizers.
Next to hit the trash bin? My gnarly old toothbrush and an “eco friendly” toothpaste that I got from some sample box. It was clay based or something and tasted and looked like mud. My mouth did not feel particularly clean after this experience.
I replaced these with with a new electric tooth brush, my go to toothpaste for years, Crest Pro-Health Sensitive and Enamel Shield Gel Toothpaste, I was provided a sample of Crest Pro Health Tartar Protection Rinse to facilite this post (which I really do like), and I got some of those cool flossers with handles. What a great invention!
The whole facial/clean teeth process takes about an extra 8-10 minutes, but my skin feels hydrated and my mouth refreshed; a great way to start or end the day. As we age (bleh, bleh, bleh, I know….!!!!), I know I tend to be very concerned about my skin, but I’m learning it’s a lot about the teeth too. All you need to do is watch one episode of Orange is the New Black to realize – there’s not much your face can do if your teeth are working against you!
Armed with a new routine and knowing that Dr. Stork was in town this past weekend for the SHAPE Diva Dash in Midland, NC, Mom Favorites contributor Larisa Black was ready to meet with Dr. Stork one-one-one and get the skinny on oral health.
Q, Larisa: What advice do you have for maintaining oral health during the early stages of pregnancy during when mommas suffer from nausea/morning sickness?
A, Dr. Stork: Since 70% of pregnant women get gingivitis while pregnant it is imperative for those women to make sure they keep up with their routine of brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash. The crest products have a very refreshing taste, which might help make it slightly easier. Being a man, I have never had to deal with morning sickness so I give a lot of credit to those women who have had to deal with that while maintaining their oral health!
~Editor’s Note: Smart answer if I do say some myself… 🙂
Q, Larisa: What tips do you have for encouraging children to get excited about brushing their teeth?
A, Dr. Stork: Making brushing fun and not a chore will help children want to brush their teeth. Telling them you are going to fight off the “sugar monster” or using a character toothbrush might help.
~Editor’s Note: So that’s a no to rewarding them with jelly beans if the brush their teeth? (Just kidding….)
Dr. Stork is campaigning with Crest Pro Health to ensure that women are taking care of their oral hygiene and how it relates to your over all health. Be sure to consider Crest Pro Health Tartar Protection Rinse to your daily morning and evening routines, to deliver anti cavity and anti tartar protection to your precious whites.
‘Cause nobody wants to end up looking like Pennsyltucky! It’s a small goal, but one I’m willing to set.
A special thanks to the One2One Network for making our participation in this possible and to Larisa Black who attended the Diva Dash on my behalf and got to meet one of the hottest Dr.’s in TV Land. Yeah, that was an opportunity that was hard to pass up!

I’ve been using Crest Pro Health toothpaste and mouth wash for over 3 years now, I love it and have had no cavities or dental issues during or after my pregnancy. I’ve found it cheapest at BJ’s.
